The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has foiled an armed robbery attack at a petrol station along Ikot Ekpene Road, near Ikot Ekang Junction in Abak Local Government Area. One suspect was neutralized during a gun battle, while five others escaped with gunshot injuries.
The Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the operation followed credible intelligence. “At about 1947 hours on January 2, 2026, six armed men attempted to rob the station attendants. Upon sighting police, a gun duel ensued,” she stated.
Police recovered four locally made guns, six live cartridges, two mobile phones, a brown bag, a wallet, four ATM cards from the scene. The neutralized suspect, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was found with charms tied to the body and has been deposited at a mortuary.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the officers for their bravery, swift response, and professionalism, ensuring no innocent life was lost, property was not damaged.
The command has launched an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects, urged the public, especially medical practitioners, to report anyone seeking treatment for gunshot injuries under suspicious circumstances.
