Akwa Ibom State Police Command has achieved a major breakthrough in its fight against robbery and violent crimes, arresting a suspect linked to a notorious syndicate that targets tricycle operators.
According to a press release from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the arrest was made on February 24, 2026, following credible intelligence and swift police action.
The suspect, identified as Ogbonnaya Kalu, was apprehended and found in possession of a stolen tricycle with registration number JRC 139 QZ.
Subsequent intelligence-led operations led to the recovery of another stolen tricycle, KNE 747 QJ, further confirming the suspect’s involvement in the criminal network.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate specializes in ambushing and dispossessing tricycle operators, causing fear and economic hardship for residents and transport workers.
The operations of the gang have reportedly destabilized local communities and created insecurity among citizens.
Under the proactive leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, the Command has intensified efforts to track and apprehend remaining members of the gang, with the goal of dismantling the syndicate completely and recovering additional stolen property.
The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to provide timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
