Akwa Ibom State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against illegal arms manufacturing and proliferation in the state.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence and intensive surveillance, apprehended one Umo Udoh, a resident of Ibiaku Uruan Village in Uruan Local Government Area, at about 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Udoh is a key arms fabricator responsible for producing firearms and training other suspects previously arrested by the Command.
The suspect has reportedly confessed to his involvement in the illicit activities.
Items recovered from the suspect include:
•One Dane gun
•One dismantled single-barrel gun
•One gun butt
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling illegal arms networks and prosecuting offenders.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command will continue to identify, apprehend, and prosecute all individuals involved in the illegal fabrication, possession, or distribution of firearms,” he said, warning that there would be no safe haven for criminal elements in the state.
Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
The Police Command also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to support efforts in maintaining peace and security across Akwa Ibom State.
