The Chairman of Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Barr. Utibe Nwoko has paid an unscheduled visit to the first baby delivered at the newly commissioned Abiakana Model Primary Health Centre.
He described the milestone as a clear testimony to Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in rural communities.
The newborn, a baby boy from Nto Isioho, Abiakana, is the first child to be delivered at the state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated recently under the Governor’s One–Project–Per–Local–Government Initiative, aimed at expanding access to quality primary healthcare across the state.
During the visit, Barr. Nwoko congratulated the mother on her safe delivery and commended the nurses and health workers on duty for their professionalism, promptness, and dedication.
He said he was delighted that the centre had begun fulfilling its mandate within a short time of its commissioning.
The Council Chairman recalled that during the ceremony, the Governor, through his representative, emphasized that the Abiakana Model Primary Health Centre was fully equipped to deliver comprehensive basic healthcare services, eliminating the need for residents to travel long distances for essential medical care.

Barr. Nwoko expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for consistently prioritizing rural health infrastructure and for delivering a functional, modern primary health centre in every local government area as promised.
He assured that Ika Local Government will continue to work closely with the Governor through 2031 in advancing the ARISE Agenda for the overall wellbeing of the people.
