,Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has disclosed that his administration has paid over ₦82 billion out of the ₦111 billion inherited as gratuities and other entitlements owed to retired civil servants since 2012.

The governor made this known during his Easter broadcast on Sunday, reaffirming his commitment to clearing the outstanding backlog before the end of his first term in office.

“To date, we have paid over ₦82 billion out of the ₦111 billion we inherited, and we remain on track to liquidate the backlog, hopefully before the end of our first term. This was a campaign promise, and I’m happy we are fulfilling it,” Eno stated.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements under the ARISE Agenda, the governor revealed that over 1,300 kilometres of roads have been constructed since he assumed office in 2023, including inherited and newly initiated projects.

He added that the State Executive Council recently approved an additional 167 kilometres of roads, with several ongoing projects set for commissioning as part of activities marking his third anniversary in office.

Eno stressed that development projects have reached all 31 local government areas, covering road construction, model primary healthcare centres, schools, feeder roads, and general hospitals.

“There is no local government area in this state that we have not touched,” he said, citing ongoing infrastructure and social development initiatives across the state.

While acknowledging existing challenges, the governor expressed optimism, drawing inspiration from the Easter message of hope and renewal.

“Just as the Risen Christ brought hope, we will continue to work to improve the welfare of our people, build a future anchored on faith and progress,” he added.
