Akwa Ibom State Government says it has recorded significant milestones across key sectors in the last 33 months under Governor Umo Eno’s administration, with major investments in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, education and security.

Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniekan Umanah stated this today while presenting the February edition of the Monthly Media Briefing at Government House, Uyo.

He said within the last month alone, multiple construction projects were ongoing across Uyo metropolis, including repairs of potholes at 83 locations and full reconstruction of Aka Itiam Street.

According to him, work is progressing on the ARISE Palm Resort, a proposed 5,000-capacity Convention Centre, a 200-bed Ibom Hotel at the Tropicana Complex, and franchise arrangements for Four Points by Sheraton in Ikot Ekpene.

The Commissioner also said the administration also paid 2.3 billion naira in gratuities to retired civil servants within the period under review.

He further announced that it is defending the state’s claim to 76 oil wells under dispute with a neighbouring state, while advancing fiscal reforms through the implementation of the Treasury Single Account to enhance transparency and block revenue leakages.

In workers’ welfare, the government’s spokesman said over 80 billion naira has been paid to clear pension and gratuity backlogs.

Mr. Umanah also listed the implementation of the 80,000-naira minimum wage, payment of 13th month salaries, recruitment of 3,000 workers and 2,000 health personnel, as well as the disbursement of one point two billion Naira as wardrobe allowance to teachers.

In education, he said 31 Model Schools have been established, while 121 projects have been executed under the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, with free education, bursaries and payment of examination fees reducing financial burdens on families.

Security measures highlighted include the creation of the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways, deployment of a 4,500-man Ibom Community Watch, provision of patrol vehicles and gunboats, and operationalization of a Security Command Centre.
