Akwa Ibom State Government has clarified the legal status of Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve, following claims by Ekid People’s Union about ownership of the land.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, signed by the State Attorney-General, Uko Udom, SAN, the government said historic court rulings, including a 1918 Privy Council decision, did not grant ownership of the land to any ethnic group or community.

The state government noted that the land has been lawfully reserved since the colonial era and is managed under existing laws for public, economic purposes.

The government also denied allegations of fraud or misrepresentation related to the forest reserve, warned that legal action may be taken against anyone spreading false information.

Akwa Ibom State government further reassured the Federal Government of its full support for the Coastal Highway project, granting right of way through any part of the state.

It urged all parties to allow ongoing court proceedings resolve the dispute, emphasizing the importance of the rule of law and lawful administration of state land.
