The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, has assured of strong collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to safeguard critical government assets, sustain peace across the state.
Lady Obareki gave the assurance on Tuesday when she received the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Geraldine Sixtus Abetianbe, and her team on a familiarization visit to Government House, Uyo.
Welcoming the delegation, the First Lady Designate commended the Commandant as the 17th and third female to hold the position in the state, noting that women are increasingly breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated sectors.

She explained that her office is committed to complementing the efforts of the state government, particularly through her NGO, GIFA, which focuses on bridging development gaps in rural communities.
“The Governor has been intentional in reaching the grassroots through a bottom-top approach. What we do here is to complement government efforts and fill existing gaps,” she said.
Lady Obareki also congratulated the Commandant on her posting, wished her a successful, impactful tenure in the state.
Earlier, Commandant Abetianbe said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration and fostering partnership with the Office of the First Lady. She highlighted the Corps’ responsibilities, including the protection of critical national assets, supervision of private guard companies, and tackling vandalism and theft.

She reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to supporting the state government in maintaining peace and security across Akwa Ibom.
