President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has accepted an invitation to serve as the guest speaker at the 49th Convocation and Lecture of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, scheduled for December 13, 2025.
The invitation was formally extended to Akpabio on Tuesday when a delegation from the university, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, visited him in Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Bamire appreciate Akpabio’s “contributions to the nation, particularly in the education sector. Your leadership continues to inspire us.”
Senate President Akpabio expressed gratitude and confirmed his attendance, stating, “I am delighted to be associated with you. It will be my great pleasure to come with a retinue of distinguished Senators to join you for the entirety of your 49th Convocation ceremony, not just the lecture. Your alumni association is respected nationally and internationally, please continue to keep the flag flying.”
Senator Akpabio also offered words of advice to the Vice Chancellor and the university’s principal officers:
“Do your best to elevate the standard of the university beyond what you inherited. And for the principal officers, supporting leadership today prepares you for leadership tomorrow. Give him all the support he needs because when the university succeeds, you succeed as well.”
The 49th Convocation promises to celebrate academic excellence while honoring outstanding leadership and contributions to education, with Akpabio at the helm as the keynote speaker.
