Prince Akpabio II made the pledge on Thursday while laying a wreath in honour of fallen heroes at the Essien Udim Local Government Cenotaph in Afaha Ikot Ebak, as part of activities marking the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
The lawmaker, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Development, said the gesture was aimed at providing support and relief to families of soldiers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
In addition to the monthly stipend, Prince Akpabio donated ₦200,000 to the Nigerian Legion, Essien Udim Chapter, to support the welfare of veterans.
He paid glowing tribute to fallen soldiers for their courage and selfless sacrifice, while also celebrating living veterans for their professionalism and resilience in confronting Nigeria’s security challenges to ensure peace and stability.
The Essien Udim lawmaker expressed appreciation to gallant officers and men of the Armed Forces and called on citizens, corporate organizations and the private sector to support serving and retired personnel, particularly wounded officers and families of fallen heroes.
