Super Eagles forward and 2024 African Player of the Year, Ademola Lookman, has expressed satisfaction with Nigeria’s flawless performance in the group stage of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, as the tournament enters the knockout phase.

Nigeria secured maximum points from three matches to finish top of their group, a development Lookman described as a ‘positive signal’ ahead of the round of 16.

“It’s been good three wins from three games, nine points. It is positive for us,” the 28-year-old told Ademola Victor TV. “We are going in the right direction, and we want to continue this way.”

The Atalanta winger has been instrumental to the Super Eagles’ campaign, recording two goals and two assists in the group phase.

He scored and provided an assist in Nigeria’s 2-1 opening win over Tanzania and repeated the feat in a dramatic 3-2 victory against Tunisia on matchday two.

The Super Eagles will face Mozambique in the round of 16 on Monday, however, Lookman insisted the team is unfazed by any opponent.

“There is no team we want to avoid, although I have respect for everybody. If you want to win a tournament, you need to play the best,” he said. “We want to continue to win our games, face everybody in this competition. We are looking forward to the teams to come.”

Super Eagles are chasing a fourth AFCON title, which would provide some relief after missing out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Lookman said the team remains focused on maintaining momentum as the competition intensifies.
