ABAK COUNCIL CHAIRMAN SPEAKS AGAINST ASSAULT, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE

The Executive Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Ime Effiong Charles, has reaffirmed her administration’s stance against violence following the reported assault on Ms. Rachel Samuel.

Hon. Charles described the incident as deeply disturbing, unacceptable, stressing that acts of violence have no place in Abak and must be condemned by all members of society.

Ms. Rachel Samuel, an indigene of Ikot Ekpat in Ukanafun Local Government Area, was reportedly assaulted by her landlord, Mr. Hope Ekong, in an incident that has since drawn widespread public attention after circulating online.

Reacting to the development, the council chairman expressed heartfelt sympathy for the victim and assured her of the council’s support during this difficult time. She noted that although she was out of town on official assignment when the incident occurred, she remains fully committed to ensuring that the matter is treated with the seriousness it deserves.

Hon. Charles emphasized that the people of Abak are known for peaceful and hospitable nature, noting that the alleged assault does not represent the values and culture of the community.

She further commended the Nigerian Police for their swift response which led to the arrest of the suspect. The chairman also acknowledged the efforts of the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Noble Lady Helen Eno-Obareki, and Barr. Emem Ette of the State Gender-Based Violence Coordinating Committee for their proactive roles in ensuring the case received prompt attention.

Reiterating her administration’s commitment to protecting residents, Hon. Charles called on members of the public to speak out against all forms of violence, and to support efforts aimed at promoting justice, respect for human dignity, and peaceful coexistence within the society.
