A frontline aspirant for the Abak State Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections, Barrister Tony Udonsa, on Saturday met with stakeholders of Midim Clan as part of ongoing consultations to galvanise grassroots support.
The meeting, held at St. Michael Primary School, Midim, brought together community leaders, political stakeholders, youths, and women from across the clan.
Addressing the gathering, Udonsa said his aspiration was driven by the need to ensure equity and fair representation, noting that Midim Clan has not produced a member of the State House of Assembly for over 26 years, despite other clans having had their turns.
He highlighted his previous role as a Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President, which he said enabled him to facilitate several developmental projects in the area, including boreholes for potable water, installation of street lights, road construction, and other community-based interventions.
Udonsa assured the people that, if elected, he would attract more impactful projects and give the constituency effective representation at the state legislature.
Responding on behalf of the stakeholders, the convener of the meeting and Provost of the Federal School of Medical Laboratory Technology, Jos, Professor Nkereuwem Etokudoh, expressed satisfaction with Udonsa’s aspiration, describing it as a bold step toward addressing the long-standing marginalisation of Midim Clan.
He noted that the move reflects the growing desire of the people to have their voice represented in the State Assembly and expressed optimism that the agitation for inclusion would yield positive results.
In a symbolic cultural gesture, Professor Etokudoh invoked ancestral blessings, calling on representatives from Nto Ndene, Nto Ekiduk, Ikot Imoh, Nto Obo, and Ekpat Iduot—Udonsa’s maternal home—to offer prayers and spiritual support for his ambition.
Stakeholders at the meeting reportedly expressed unanimous support for Udonsa, pledging their backing as he pursues his political ambition.
Dignitaries present at the event included Retired General Dominic Udofa; Retired Drug Law Officer, Noah Essien Udotong; former Zonal Manager of Ecobank, Essien Oboh; Hon. Engr. Mfon Abia; Hon. Dr. Ikopima Jonah; Hon. Imo Edem; Obonganwan Rose Jack; Obonganwan Elizabeth Akpan; Hon. Blaize Akpan; Hon. Cecilia Nyarks; Hon. Ifiok David Ibanga; Hon. Saviour Hanson; Hon. Uduak Etokudoh; Hon. Anwankak Okon Ukpong; Mr. Udeme Ntia; Chief Paul Oboh; Hon. Fred Jumbo Udofa; Comrade Denis Nyarks; and Mr. Saviour Edem, among others, including traditional rulers, youths, and women groups.
The consultation forms part of broader engagements by the aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections.
