FIRE RAZES POPULAR KANO MARKET

An early morning fire on Monday has gutted parts of the popular Singa Market in Kano.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed that they received a distress call at around 3:16a.m., promptly deployed firefighters to the scene.

Spokesperson Saminu Yusif said that as of 10 a.m., some pockets of the market were still burning, with efforts ongoing to contain the blaze, prevent further spread.

In a separate incident; fire also ravaged a residential building at Fabikez Street, Omagba Phase 2, in Onitsha North Local Government Area, Anambra State, last Friday.

The blaze, which began around 5:15p.m., claimed the life of a 95-year-old woman who was trapped for several hours.

The fire destroyed several apartments, caused damage estimated in millions of naira before it was brought under control by the Anambra State Fire Service with assistance from residents and passersby.

Authorities are investigating both incidents.
