The Bayelsa State Government has assumed responsibility for the medical treatment of victims of a road accident that occurred today around Toru-Orua, along the Sagbama-Ekeremor road.

Professor Seiyefa Brisibe, the State Commissioner for Health, stated that Governor Senator Douye Diri had directed him and the state medical team to ensure victims received prompt and adequate care.

Addressing false reports circulating online that ten people died in the accident involving an 18-seater bus, Professor Brisibe clarified that only two fatalities were recorded.

He added that other victims, who were rescued and received emergency medical attention from government ambulance teams deployed along the road, have remained stable. The ambulances were initially stationed for the burial of the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in Ofoni.

The injured victims have been moved to Sagbama General Hospital and Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, where they are reportedly responding well to treatment.
