The Rivers State Government has denied allegations that Governor Siminalayi Fubara removed the official portrait of President Bola Tinubu from Government House, Port Harcourt.

The denial was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday evening by the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Information and Communications, Honour Sirawoo.

Sirawoo was reacting to a statement he said was credited to the Rivers State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and allegedly authored by Bestman Innocent Amadi, which accused Governor Fubara of disrespecting the President by removing his official portrait from the state seat of power.

Describing the allegation as misleading and irresponsible, the Permanent Secretary said Governor Fubara maintains a robust, cordial relationship with President Tinubu and his administration, as well as with the Renewed Hope Agenda family.

According to the statement, the Rivers State Government has neither issued nor contemplated any policy or directive that undermines the authority of the President or the Federal Government.

“The attention of the Rivers State Government has been drawn to a statement credited to an acclaimed Rivers State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and authored by one Bestman Innocent Amadi, alleging that His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, removed the official portrait of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu, from Government House, Rivers State,” the statement read.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Rivers State Government has no policy, directive, or intention that disrespects the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or the authority of the Federal Government,” it added.
