Activities at the secretariats of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) were brought to a halt on Monday following an indefinite strike embarked upon by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) over demands for improved working conditions.
As early as Monday morning, the main gates of both secretariats were locked, preventing staff and visitors from gaining access to the complexes for their daily official duties.
Many workers reportedly stayed away from work in full compliance with the industrial action, as the unions intensified efforts to press home their demands for better welfare and improved conditions of service within the FCTA.
The Chairperson of the Joint Union Action Committee urged members to maintain the strike and adhere strictly to the directive until further instructions are issued by the union leadership.
Long queues of vehicles were also seen parked along nearby road shoulders, development viewed as a clear indication of the unions’ resolve to sustain the action, signalling what the leadership described as a “no retreat, no surrender” stance in the ongoing labour dispute.
