Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Friday Akonobi, in connection with the abduction and alleged ritual killing of a six-year-old girl, in a case linked to an Enugu-based suspected native doctor.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, Akonobi was arrested on January 17 by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, Ozioma Nwankwo, was abducted on May 10, 2025, from Ikwo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, by a five-man syndicate and subsequently handed over to the alleged native doctor, Obieze Ezeani, popularly known as “Edey Play” or “Edey Show”.
During interrogation, Akonobi reportedly confessed to committing the crime alongside four accomplices who are currently at large.
He also disclosed that he and the others acted as agents for Ezeani, allegedly receiving ₦1 million each for delivering virgin girls to him.
The suspect said the victim was murdered, used for ritual purposes.
The police confirmed that the alleged native doctor has since been arrested by Enugu State Police Command, a development that has generated widespread public attention following the circulation of videos on social media.
SP Ikenga assured the public that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring all involved to justice.
