ONDO GOV’T LAUNCHES 2026 ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE EMBLEM FUND WITH N5M DONATION

The Ondo State Government has launched the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund, donating N5 million to reaffirm its commitment to the welfare of military veterans, widows, dependants of fallen heroes.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa made the donation on Monday in Akure, the state capital, describing the occasion as an opportunity to solemnly honour the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of Nigeria’s fallen heroes.

“We honour our men and women who laid down their lives, defending the nation during wars, insurgencies, terrorism, and peacekeeping missions,” the Governor said.

He also commended the nation’s security agencies for their professionalism and dedication to the protection of lives and property in Ondo State.

Governor Aiyedatiwa congratulated the newly elected state and area council executives of the Nigerian Legion on their emergence in the recent elections, announced the donation of his one-month salary to the emblem appeal.

“We are not unmindful of the untold hardship borne by the wives, children, and dependants left behind by our fallen heroes,” he said.

According to him, the state government has increased its financial support to the Nigerian Legion, alongside other intervention windows provided under his administration.

“I urge members of the Nigerian Legion and widows to take full advantage of the social intervention and empowerment programmes of this administration, particularly those aimed at uplifting the less privileged,” Aiyedatiwa added.

He assured that relevant government agencies would continue to provide the necessary support to ensure beneficiaries live dignified, socially fulfilling lives.

Earlier, Maj. Folorunso Akingboju (retd.) said the Ondo State Government had consistently provided financial support for the empowerment of widows of fallen heroes, while also attending to the welfare of veterans, orphans, and other dependants. He expressed optimism for increased support going forward.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Seun Osamaye, appealed to members of the public to donate generously to the appeal fund in honour of both fallen and living heroes.
