Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Odu, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Her move comes more than a month after Governor Siminalayi Fubara, majority of Rivers State lawmakers at both the state and federal levels joined the APC from the PDP.

Odu completed her registration formalities on Sunday at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, after which she embarked on a tour of the six zones of the LGA to sensitize residents on the ongoing APC e-registration exercise.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by Owupele Benebo, Head of Press Unit, Office of the Deputy Governor.

Addressing stakeholders during the tour, Odu said the registration drive was part of efforts to consolidate support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Fubara.

“Today, I came to sensitize the people, everywhere we went, there were large crowds who came out to receive us. They said wherever I go, they will go with me; and wherever Governor Fubara and President Tinubu go, they will go,” she said.

Odu visited all six zones of the LGA—Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema, and Ndoni—and described the turnout as a sign of growing grassroots alignment with the APC leadership.

She added that the exercise also saw hundreds of Labour Party members in Ndoni defecting to the APC, many of whom expressed enthusiasm about joining the party fold.

“The move is to further strengthen the support base of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” Odu said, noting that six zonal meetings had already been conducted to facilitate the plan.

The statement described the development as a boost to APC’s strength in the LGA and a reflection of increasing public confidence in the party’s leadership.
