Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has ordered the immediate termination of all private contractors and consultants involved in revenue collection across the state.
The directive, announced on Sunday during a New Year thanksgiving service, signals a major overhaul of the state’s revenue framework and the adoption of a Single Treasury Account (STA) system aimed at blocking financial leakages.
With the order taking immediate effect, all existing revenue-collection contracts, ranging from motor parks and transport unions to sector-based consultancy arrangements, have been voided.
Governor Eno said the move effectively resets Akwa Ibom’s revenue-gathering mechanism, placing all collections under direct government supervision.
Under the new arrangement, an inter-ministerial committee, led by the Commissioner for Finance and Budget, will assume responsibility for overseeing all revenue inflows.
Henceforth, all state revenue will be paid directly into a single government treasury account, enabling real-time monitoring and transparency.
The Governor also pledged full public disclosure of revenue generated under the unified system, stressing that the policy is a deliberate governance choice rather than a routine administrative action.
“I am saying it now so you can know we are serious,” Eno declared.
“We must ensure that all revenue is collected centrally into one unified state treasury.”
The state government is expected to inaugurate a transition task force in the coming days to manage the handover process, ensure there is no disruption to state earnings.
