ENUGU COMMUNITY CROWNS RETIRED DIG AS NEW MONARCH AFTER NINE YEARS

The Uhueze Nenwe community in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State has crowned a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo, as its new traditional ruler, bringing to an end a nine year vacancy on the throne.

Mr Nwobodo succeeds the late Igwe Emmanuel Nwachukwu, who passed away nine years ago.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the newly crowned monarch previously served as Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Abuja, which covers the FCT, Kaduna and Niger states. He is a Fellow of the National Defence College.

The colourful coronation ceremony, held on Saturday at Girls High School field, Nenwe; attracted members of the community, friends, associates and well wishers from far and near.

Speaking during the event, the Chairman of the Coronation Planning and Execution Committee, Joseph Orji, a retired Group Captain, described the occasion as historic, symbolic.

He said the coronation represented a bridge between the community’s rich heritage, the aspirations of a new generation, noting that it reaffirmed the people’s collective identity, unity and commitment to peace and development.

“Today, we witness history, a day that binds the proud heritage of our forefathers with the hopes, aspirations of a new generation. This coronation is not just a ceremony, but a renewal of our commitment to unity, peace and progress,” Orji said.

He described Igwe Nwobodo as a leader shaped by discipline, experience, compassion, adding that his background in security and national service had prepared him for the responsibility of traditional leadership.

“As a retired senior police officer and fellow of the National Defence College, he brings to the throne a wealth of knowledge, integrity, an unwavering sense of duty. His life of service speaks for itself, his emergence as Igwe is well deserved,” he added.

Orji also called on the people of Uhueze Nenwe and Aninri at large to give the new monarch full support to enable him succeed.

Also speaking, a member of the community and the Igwe’s Council of Chiefs, Sunday Esom, said the selection of Nwobodo followed a unanimous decision by the community. He reaffirmed the commitment of the people to support the new traditional ruler in the discharge of his duties; in promoting peace, unity, development across the community.

The coronation marks a new chapter in the leadership of Uhueze Nenwe, with expectations high that the reign of Igwe Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo will usher in renewed progress and harmony.
