Following his reinstatement, the Mandate Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, has declared his unwavering loyalty to the minister, Nyesom Wike
Hayyo also pledged renewed reforms in the education sector, following his reinstatement, assuring that all ongoing transformation programmes will be sustained in line with the vision of the FCT Administration.
Speaking shortly after resuming duty, he thanked God and the FCT Minister for what he described as his vindication and return to office, stressing his unwavering loyalty to the minister.
“I thank God Almighty for vindicating me over the last incident. I also sincerely thank the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, who understood the situation and reinstated me.
“My loyalty to the Honourable Minister is 100 per cent”, Hayyo said.
He also appreciated the FCT Minister of State, members of the Education Secretariat, the FCT Administration and other stakeholders for their support during the period.
On reforms going forward, the Mandate Secretary disclosed that one of his immediate priorities is the organisation of refresher training programmes for directors and senior officials to strengthen internal processes and prevent administrative lapses.
“One of the first things we will do is to embark on refresher training for directors, including newly appointed ones. They must clearly understand their mandates, responsibilities and the limits of their authority”, he said.
Hayyo explained that the incident which led to his temporary removal was the result of actions taken without proper authorisation, noting that no director is permitted to issue or circulate sensitive decisions without the approval of the Mandate Secretary and the Minister.
On school safety, he assured parents and residents that all FCT public schools are safe, adding that there are currently no security threats.
“All FCT schools are very safe. Issues of security are handled directly by security agencies such as the police and other services, who constantly brief the Minister. We only provide advice where necessary,” he stated.
Hayyo further highlighted massive investments in the education sector under the current FCT Administration, noting that spending on education aligns with international benchmarks.
“From 2023 to date, about 26 per cent of the FCT capital budget has gone into education.
“Over 100 schools have been renovated or are undergoing renovation”, he said.
According to him, between 60 and 70 per cent of school renovation projects are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026, after which the Minister is expected to commission many of the projects.
He added that improved infrastructure has positively impacted students’ academic performance, stressing that FCT students are increasingly excelling in national and international competitions, including robotics and artificial intelligence contests abroad.
“The transformation of schools has a direct relationship with improved academic performance. Today, FCT students are competing and winning internationally”, he added.

He urged analysts and the media to assess academic performance with consideration for student population and context, insisting that FCT schools remain among the best-equipped and best-performing in the country.
