Afrobeat superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has again shown his passion for football ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, wagering $25,000 (about ₦36 million) on Nigeria’s opening Group C match against Tanzania.

The singer shared a screenshot of his betting slip on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, captioned, “Let’s get this W Nigeria.”

The betting slip, placed via the Stake app, shows a wager on both teams to score, with a potential payout of $96,564 (approximately ₦140 million).

This is not Davido’s first public bet on the Super Eagles.

Ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon, the singer staked $10,000 (₦15 million), predicting a Nigerian victory with both teams to score, a bet that could have yielded $50,194.58 (₦75.2 million).

Nigeria, however, lost that encounter.

Despite the setback, Davido’s support for the national team appears unwavering.

His latest wager has nonetheless sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans praising his confidence, while others jokingly questioned his loyalty, following previous losses.

As a brand ambassador for Stake, some observers see the bet as promotional, while critics accuse the singer of prioritizing profit over national pride.

The Super Eagles will face Tanzania’s Taifa Stars on Tuesday, December 23, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco, as Nigeria begins its quest for a fourth AFCON title.

The three-time African champions, led by Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, amongst others are favourites in Group C, which also includes Tunisia and Uganda.

Nigeria are ranked 38th in the world, far ahead of Tanzania’s 112th position in the FIFA rankings.

The Taifa Stars have never beaten Nigeria in a competitive fixture, a statistic that boosts confidence in the Eagles’ chances, although Nigeria’s recent failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup has left many fans cautiously optimistic.
