Troops of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation HADIN KAI have disrupted a major logistics movement by Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, neutralizing at least 21 fighters during a coordinated ambush in Sojiri and Kayamla communities of Borno State.

The successful operation followed credible intelligence indicating that more than 100 Boko Haram terrorists were converging in the area to launch coordinated attacks on surrounding communities and transport supplies to their enclaves.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilantes, mobilized to intercept the terrorists.

Military sources said contact was made at midnight as the terrorists advanced, leading to a fierce and sustained firefight.

During the engagement, the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre, which was effectively countered by the troops through superior firepower, forcing the insurgents into disarray.

Following the encounter, troops carried out aggressive exploitation operations deep into the forest, confirming the neutralization of 21 terrorists, while several others were believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

Army officials say follow-on operations are ongoing to determine additional enemy casualties, to recover more items.

Items recovered from the terrorists include several bicycles, assorted food items, drugs and medical supplies, detergents, clothing materials, bicycle tyres, torchlights, and other logistics materials, as well as assorted weapons of different calibres and ammunition.
