The immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

Oyebamiji’s emergence was confirmed on Saturday at the party’s governorship primary held at the Ebunoluwa Group of Schools, Osogbo, following a motion moved by two governorship aspirants, Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare.

The Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Committee and Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, subjected the motion to a voice vote, which received overwhelming approval from party delegates present at the venue.

Declaring the outcome, Okpebholo said, “By the power conferred on me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji as the governorship candidate of our party.”

The primary election had earlier commenced with the arrival of members of the APC primary committee, led by Okpebholo, who disclosed that the party’s candidate would emerge through affirmation.

Other dignitaries present included the committee’s co-chairman and Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, who represented the Lagos State Governor, former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Prior to the primary, 1,660 delegates eligible to participate in the December 13 APC governorship primary had emerged.

There were strong indications that all seven APC governorship aspirants in the state had agreed to support a consensus candidate after a late-night meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Confirming this position, a former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, publicly endorsed the consensus arrangement during a TVC News programme, Politics Tonight, on Wednesday.

Omisore, who was among the seven aspirants disqualified by the APC Screening Committee over alleged violations of party guidelines and electoral provisions, said he accepted the decision in deference to the advice and guidance of President Tinubu.
