President Bola Tinubu has stepped into the crisis rocking the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.
This follows the controversial disqualification of Senator Iyiola Omisore and other aspirants from the party’s forthcoming governorship primaries.
The intervention was revealed in a statement posted on the official X handle of Renewed Hope – United Kingdom, a diaspora support group for the president.
According to the group, Tinubu held a closed-door meeting on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with leading Osun APC governorship aspirants in a bid to restore calm and prevent deeper divisions within the party.
The meeting was reportedly convened to address rising tensions over the screening exercise, growing internal mistrust, and fears that the ruling party could approach the election season severely fractured.
In attendance were members of the APC National Working Committee, including the National Chairman, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chairman of Progressive Governors’ Forum, and former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola.
However, Senator Omisore, whose disqualification has triggered widespread outrage within the party, was conspicuously absent.
His non-attendance has fuelled speculation that he remains aggrieved over what several stakeholders describe as “selective disqualifications” by the screening committee.
Renewed Hope UK quoted President Tinubu as cautioning aspirants against actions that could jeopardize the party’s unity ahead of the governorship election.
“Internal divisions can undermine our chances in the forthcoming governorship election. The APC must not go into this contest divided,” Tinubu reportedly said. “Fairness will prevail, and reconciliation is in the interest of our party.”
Party insiders disclosed that the president expressed worries that deepening factional mistrust in Osun could weaken the APC’s broader electoral strategy, especially with the opposition poised to capitalize on internal disputes.
The statement noted growing discontent among supporters of several disqualified aspirants, many of whom have criticized the screening process as lacking transparency.
The group described Tinubu’s intervention as timely, at a period when calls for national-level mediation have intensified.
“The president has assured all stakeholders that no injustice will be allowed,” the group stated, adding that further engagement would be undertaken to address all grievances.
Renewed Hope UK also revealed that Tinubu is expected to meet with the excluded aspirants, including Omisore, in the coming days as part of efforts to heal longstanding rifts, avert defections or internal sabotage.

Political analysts say the days ahead will be crucial in determining whether the APC can rebuild unity and present a formidable front ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested Osun governorship election.
