Lagos is set to push its global party reputation even further as organisers announce a 96-hour DJ Marathon World Festival, designed to celebrate the most anticipated season in Nigeria’s entertainment calendar: Detty December.
The four-day, non-stop music marathon will run from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026, and is expected to feature at least 100 DJs performing back-to-back sets, turning Lagos into a global rhythm capital as the new year approaches.
Coordinator of the event, Buchi Henry, said the idea was inspired by the growing international curiosity around Lagos’ December culture, which has become one of Africa’s most talked-about festive experiences.
“There were so many questions about Lagos because of December and why the 30th was trending. We had people from Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, France and Portugal asking to come to Nigeria to experience the aura and beauty of the country, especially the Detty December fever,” he said.
Once known as just another holiday party season, Detty December has evolved into a global cultural movement, attracting thousands of tourists, influencers, creatives, and party lovers from across Europe and other parts of the world.
With this DJ Marathon Festival, Lagos is positioning itself not just as Nigeria’s entertainment hub, but as a world-class destination for music tourism.

Beyond the music, the festival is also being seen as a bold statement of resilience and creativity, a city often battling traffic, flooding, and infrastructure strain is still able to reinvent itself as a centre of joy, culture, and global connection.
But the announcement also raises questions:
Can Lagos handle the pressure?
Will security and infrastructure match the global attention? Or will the chaos become part of the “experience”?
As the countdown to December 29 begins, one thing is clear: Lagos isn’t just preparing for a party. It is preparing to compete with the world’s biggest nightlife cities and the world is already watching.
