A fresh wave of controversy has unfolded at the National Assembly as Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan of Kogi Central confirmed that she has been served a newly instituted N200 billion defamation suits by the President of the Senate Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Senator Natasha made the disclosure in a post on her official Facebook page where she expressed relief that the matter is finally heading to court. According to her the lawsuit now creates an opportunity for her to openly present her long-standing allegation of sexual harassment against the Senate President.

She recalled that the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges had earlier refused to grant her audience when she attempted to raise the issue before the committee. The lawmakers had argued that since Mrs Unoma Akpabio had already taken her to court for defamation they could not entertain a matter that was before the judiciary.

Senator Natasha added that despite this she could not file her own case at the time because Senate rules required her to first appear before the same Ethics Committee. She described the committee as the same body that recommended her suspension which a court later ruled as illegal.

With Senator Akpabio now taking legal action against her she says the stage is finally set for the full truth to be heard. She insisted that she is prepared to prove her allegation of sexual harassment and the alleged intimidation that she claims followed her refusal to give in to certain demands.

The Kogi Central Senator ended her post with a short but pointed message to the Senate President saying “See you in court Godswill Akpabio.”

The news has sparked fresh reactions across political circles as many await what could become one of the most closely watched legal battles in recent legislative history.
