The Imo State Police Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident in which a 17-year-old girl, Chiamaka Chukwuokore, sustained serious injuries after falling from a two-storey building in Owerri.
The incident occurred on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at approximately 1 p.m. along Mbonu Ejike Street, Ikenegbu Layout, in the state capital.
Police arrested a 26-year-old man, Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, following allegations that he pushed the teenager from the building during an altercation.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, November 2.
According to Okoye, Chiamaka sustained severe injuries and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The police initially reported that she remained in critical condition.

The incident attracted considerable public attention after reports emerged that an angry crowd had attempted to attack the suspect.
Police operatives intervened, rescued Joseph from the crowd and took him into custody for questioning.
The command said investigators were working to establish the events preceding the teenager’s fall and determine whether any criminal offence had been committed.
Conflicting accounts have emerged concerning the relationship between the suspect and the victim, with reports identifying Chiamaka as either the sister or niece of Joseph’s girlfriend.
There have also been conflicting reports about the teenager’s medical condition, including unverified claims that she subsequently died.
The latest independently verified police information available for this report did not confirm her death.
Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso assured residents that the command would conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate legal action based on its findings.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information that could interfere with the investigation.
The commissioner also warned against taking the law into one’s hands, stressing that criminal allegations must be addressed through established legal procedures.
Police authorities have appealed to anyone with credible information about the incident to cooperate with investigators.
Meanwhile, Joseph remains a suspect, and the allegation that he deliberately pushed the teenager has not been established by a court.
Further confirmation of Chiamaka’s medical condition and the circumstances surrounding the incident is awaited.
