The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving healthcare services for military personnel and their families, stressing that quality medical care remains essential to troop welfare, morale and operational readiness.
Shaibu made the remarks on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while unveiling the newly constructed Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps at Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army Chief described improved healthcare delivery as a critical component of maintaining a professional, motivated and combat-ready military force.

He explained that investment in medical infrastructure should extend beyond treating illnesses to ensuring the physical well-being of personnel and their dependants.
Shaibu maintained that access to reliable healthcare services would strengthen soldiers’ confidence in the military institution while enabling them to perform their responsibilities more effectively.
The COAS commended the Nigerian Army Medical Corps for providing medical support during military operations, delivering routine healthcare and participating in humanitarian interventions across the country.
He noted that the newly unveiled headquarters was expected to strengthen administrative coordination, improve institutional efficiency and provide a more conducive working environment for medical personnel.
The Army Chief also urged the Corps to embrace innovation, professionalism and improved service delivery in line with his command philosophy of Sound Administration and the Soldier First Concept.
He stressed that prioritising personnel welfare was necessary for sustaining operational effectiveness and strengthening the Army’s capacity to respond to national security challenges.

Earlier, the Corps Commander Medical, Brigadier General Innocent Enwuchola, expressed appreciation to the Army leadership for investing in medical infrastructure.
He pledged the Corps’ continued commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare services to officers, soldiers, their families and other eligible beneficiaries.
Enwuchola also assured that the newly constructed facility would be properly maintained and effectively utilised to achieve its intended objectives.
The inauguration forms part of the Nigerian Army’s broader efforts to modernise its facilities and strengthen healthcare support for serving personnel and their families.
The Army maintained that continued investment in medical services and personnel welfare would contribute to a healthier and more operationally effective force.
