The Lagos State Police Command has announced that it has identified the officer seen in a viral video involved in a physical confrontation with a commercial bus conductor in the Ikorodu area.

The incident, which sparked widespread reactions after circulating across social media platforms, has prompted a formal investigation. As part of the probe, the bus seen in the footage has been impounded.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command assured residents that the matter will be handled with transparency and fairness. “The Lagos State Police Command wishes to assure the general public that this matter will be thoroughly investigated and justice will be done,” the statement read, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and accountability.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, appealed to Lagosians to remain orderly and to report any suspected misconduct by officers through official channels. He emphasized that all legitimate complaints would be addressed.

However, CP Jimoh cautioned against exaggerated public reactions to such incidents, stressing that “unnecessary dramatisation” directed at officers is unacceptable. He also reminded the public that resisting a lawful arrest constitutes a criminal offense.

Meanwhile, the officer involved has been placed under review to determine whether his actions were appropriate. The bus conductor has also been invited to provide his own account to assist the investigation.

The viral video shows passengers pleading with the officer to release the conductor, who appeared distressed during the struggle. Voices in the background expressed concern for the man’s safety, while the conductor could be heard saying, “Help me, I don’t know what I did.” The officer, however, claimed the conductor assaulted him first.

The Lagos State Police Command says the outcome of the investigation will be made public once concluded.
