Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota has announced the recall of 105,794 vehicles in the United States following the discovery of a potential fuel leak that could increase the risk of fire.
The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed the recall on Wednesday, October 21, identifying certain Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid vehicles manufactured for model years 2024 through 2027 as affected.
According to the safety regulator, the recall concerns a fuel tube connection located near the vehicle’s fuel tank, which could become disconnected and allow petrol to leak.
The agency warned that leaked fuel could ignite if it came into contact with an ignition source, potentially endangering vehicle occupants and other road users.
Toyota explained that the fuel leak could continue until the engine within the vehicle’s hybrid system shuts down.
The company initially announced the safety recall on October 14, estimating that approximately 106,000 vehicles were affected in the United States.
The NHTSA subsequently published the more precise figure of 105,794 vehicles under recall campaign number 26V673000.

As part of the corrective measures, authorised Toyota dealerships will inspect the affected fuel tube connections and install additional clamps to prevent them from becoming detached.
Where necessary, technicians will replace the resin fuel tube and install the supplemental clamp to secure the connection.
Toyota confirmed that all inspections, replacement parts and repairs associated with the recall will be provided free of charge.
The manufacturer also disclosed that affected vehicle owners would receive notification letters by mid-December 2026, advising them on the steps required to obtain the necessary repairs.
Vehicle owners are encouraged to confirm whether their cars are included in the recall by checking their Vehicle Identification Numbers through Toyota’s official recall website or the NHTSA database.
The recall highlights the importance of continuous vehicle safety monitoring, particularly as automobile manufacturers increasingly integrate complex hybrid powertrain technologies into their vehicles.

Although the affected vehicles have been identified as certain Land Cruiser Hybrid models, not every vehicle produced within the listed model years is necessarily subject to the recall.
Toyota has advised owners seeking further clarification to contact its customer support service or an authorised dealership.
The announcement relates specifically to vehicles covered by the United States recall, and no corresponding recall for Toyota vehicles sold in Nigeria was announced in the US regulatory notice.
