The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council has paid a courtesy visit to the Member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Udobia Udo, to formally notify him of the 2025 Press Week scheduled to begin on Sunday.

Leading the delegation, the State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, thanked the lawmaker for receiving the union despite his demanding schedule.

He explained that this year’s Press Week is strategically aligned with the 37th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State and the 35th anniversary of the union in the state.

According to him, the week-long event is designed to foster unity within the media community, enhance professional development, and deepen collaboration with government and critical stakeholders in order to strengthen the media ecosystem in Akwa Ibom.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Press Week Planning Committee, Comrade Ndanti Ekuh, outlined the major activities lined up for the celebration.

He said the theme for the 2025 edition — “Turning Point: Repositioning Journalism for a Better Future” was carefully chosen to provoke reflection on governance issues, improve professional engagement, and chart a new path for media practice in a fast-evolving digital era.

He presented the lawmaker with a formal invitation letter, the Press Week uniform, and a brochure detailing the programme of activities.

Responding, Hon. Udobia Udo commended the NUJ for its consistent role in sustaining democracy and promoting public accountability.

He described the theme as both “socially and spiritually significant,” noting that journalism in Akwa Ibom has reached a critical moment where professionalism, credibility, and ethical rebirth are urgently needed.
