Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has pledged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will focus its 2027 election campaign on development projects, government performance and policy proposals rather than personal attacks against political opponents.
Aliyu made the declaration on Friday at the Government House in Sokoto after observing Jumu’at prayers, urging political parties and their supporters to maintain civility as preparations for the general elections intensify.
The governor said the APC would present its record in office to voters and allow residents to assess the administration’s achievements and development priorities.

“We will ensure decorum in our campaign language and refrain from insulting anyone,” he stated.
Aliyu maintained that his administration had undertaken several development projects across Sokoto State, expressing confidence that its performance would provide the foundation for the party’s campaign.
He said his government would continue implementing programmes intended to address residents’ concerns, improve living conditions and promote economic and infrastructural development.
The governor also challenged opposition parties to present their achievements and alternative policy proposals instead of relying on criticism of the incumbent administration.
“Rather than resorting to campaigns of calumny, opposition parties should tell the people what they achieved when they were in power,” he said.
Aliyu stressed that political competition should centre on governance, public accountability and practical solutions to the challenges facing residents.
He cautioned politicians and their supporters against inflammatory statements, intimidation and conduct capable of undermining peace during the election period.
According to him, freedom of expression and political participation must be exercised responsibly, with respect for the rights and dignity of others.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting residents regardless of their political affiliations, urging party supporters to respect opposing views and conduct their activities within the law.

He also called for cooperation among political stakeholders to preserve peace and stability across Sokoto State.
Aliyu thanked residents for their support and prayers, assuring them that his administration would remain focused on governance and the delivery of public services.
His remarks come as political parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 general elections, with debates over government performance, development priorities and political conduct expected to feature prominently in the campaigns.
