The management of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, has reiterated its ban on sign-out celebrations and related fanfare by graduating students, warning that violators could face prosecution and withdrawal of their studentship.
The institution restated the directive in a circular dated October 5, 2026, electronically signed by the Acting Registrar, Godswill E. Udofah, MNIM.
According to the management, the prohibition was initially introduced in September 2025 following concerns that sign-out activities were disrupting peace on campus.

The Polytechnic said it also received complaints from some organisations over what it described as the misuse of professional outfits during such celebrations.
Despite the earlier directive, management said it had observed that some graduating students continued to participate in activities prohibited under the ban.
The institution therefore reminded students that the directive remains in force and warned that participation in prohibited sign-out celebrations would constitute a breach of its rules and regulations.
Management said students found violating the directive could be handed over to relevant security agencies for prosecution, while their studentship could also be withdrawn in accordance with the institution’s disciplinary procedures.

The Polytechnic described the latest circular as a final warning and directed graduating students to comply strictly with the prohibition.
Members of the Polytechnic community were also urged to give the directive wide publicity to ensure that students were adequately informed.
The institution had earlier communicated the ban through a circular referenced AKP/R/059/VOL.II and dated September 15, 2025.
