The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, a work-free day for teachers across the state in commemoration of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.

The directive was announced in a circular issued on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde.

According to the state government, the decision recognises the contributions of teachers to education and human capital development in Oyo State.

Babatunde said the declaration also reflected the government’s commitment to the welfare, dignity and professional development of teachers.

He described teachers as central to the growth of the education sector, noting that the work-free day would enable them to participate fully in activities organised to celebrate the profession.

The government said the break would also provide teachers with an opportunity to reflect on developments within the education sector and strengthen unity among members of the profession.

It congratulated teachers across the state and reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving teaching conditions and learning outcomes.

World Teachers’ Day is observed annually on October 5 to recognise the contributions of teachers to education and society.
