Akwa Ibom State Police Command has refuted a viral message circulating on social media alleging the mass movement of Boko Haram fighters into several states in Southern and North-Central Nigeria, including Lagos, Ilorin, and Rivers State.
The message further claimed that dangerous key holders embedded with tracking devices were being distributed in public places.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, described the message as fake, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary fear and panic among citizens.
She stressed that no security agency in the country has issued any intelligence supporting the claims.
The Command noted that, given Akwa Ibom State’s proximity to some of the states referenced in the false alert, it was necessary to reassure residents and set the record straight.

DSP John urged residents to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of causing public distress.
She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining security across all Local Government Areas, noting that patrol teams, surveillance units, tactical squads, and community policing structures are fully operational and monitoring the environment.
While assuring the public of their safety, the Police advised citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious movement, persons, or activities to the nearest police station or security formation.
The statement emphasized that public cooperation remains crucial to sustaining peace and security in Akwa Ibom State.
