The Rivers State Government has temporarily relocated students and staff of Community Secondary School, Rumuapara, following severe flooding of the school premises.
The students and staff are to operate from State Primary School, Nkpolu, in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, beginning Wednesday, September 30.
Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, approved the relocation as part of measures to protect students and staff while ensuring that academic activities continue.

The Rumuapara school has been severely affected by rising floodwaters, making movement within parts of the premises difficult.
Students were seen navigating flooded sections of the school and using makeshift plank bridges to move between buildings, raising concerns over their safety.
The relocation followed assessments by officials involved in the state government’s response to flooding in affected communities and public facilities.
The Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee is also working to determine the causes of the flooding and develop measures to address the problem.

According to the government, its intervention will involve immediate, medium-term and long-term measures aimed at providing a lasting solution and preventing a recurrence.
The committee had earlier visited flood-affected areas and distributed relief materials to residents as part of the state’s response.
The government said the temporary relocation would allow teaching and learning to continue while measures are taken to address the flooding at Community Secondary School, Rumuapara.
