United States President Donald Trump has said the war with Iran will end “very soon,” although he did not provide a specific timeline or explain how the conflict would be brought to an end.
Trump made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking in Washington following an event focused on artificial intelligence.
Referring to the conflict, Trump said it would be over “very soon” and reiterated his position that Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.
His comments came as diplomatic efforts continued through intermediaries seeking to narrow differences between Washington and Tehran. No ceasefire agreement or definite date for ending the conflict has been announced.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC, issued a 25-page open letter to the American public on Tuesday ahead of the United States midterm elections.
The IRGC urged American voters to reject Trump’s policies and called for changes in Washington’s approach towards Iran, Israel and conflicts in the Middle East.
The intervention came as tensions between the two countries remained high despite continuing diplomatic contacts.
Oil movements through the Strait of Hormuz have also shown signs of recovery after severe disruption caused by the conflict.
Shipping data showed crude flows through the strategic waterway averaging about 13.2 million barrels per day over the past week, equivalent to roughly 77 per cent of pre-war levels.
The Strait of Hormuz remains central to negotiations between Washington and Tehran because of its importance to global energy supplies.
Iran has linked a full reopening of the waterway to broader demands concerning the conflict, while the United States has sought to maintain the movement of energy shipments through the region.
Despite Trump’s assertion that the war will end soon, significant differences remain between Washington and Tehran, and no formal agreement ending the conflict has been announced.
