Two seven-year-old boys have died after reportedly coming into contact with a live electric cable that fell on a shop along Apefon Road in Idanre, Ondo State.
The victims were identified as Oloyede Ayo and Clinton Koleola.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the children were reportedly inside the shop before an electric cable suddenly fell on the building.
According to an eyewitness account, the incident caused panic among people in the area, prompting the children to attempt to leave the premises.
The boys reportedly came into contact with the fallen live wire while trying to escape and were electrocuted.
The incident was subsequently reported to the police, who commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said preliminary findings indicated that a live electric cable had fallen on the shop.
Jimoh said the children were electrocuted while attempting to escape from the premises following the incident.
The police spokesperson expressed sympathy with the families of the deceased and assured them that the command would investigate to establish the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
The incident has renewed attention to the dangers posed by fallen electricity cables, particularly in residential and commercial areas.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
