The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a man accused of fatally stabbing a 42-year-old man following a disagreement over a ₦500 gift.
The suspect, identified as Ebino Ikpi, was arrested at about 8:40 a.m. on Sunday at a hideout in the Ajere-Ekori area of Yakurr Local Government Area, hours after the incident.
Police said the victim, Ayei Ibor, died following an altercation with the suspect at about 1 a.m. in Kekoti, Ajere.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Eitokpah, the disagreement reportedly began over ₦500 said to have been given to the two men as a gift.
The disagreement allegedly escalated into a fight during which Ibor sustained a stab wound. He was subsequently confirmed dead.
Police said the suspect fled the scene after the incident, prompting operatives to launch a search for him.
Ikpi was later located and arrested at his hideout before being taken to the Yakurr Police Division for detention and further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Ajo Ordue, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Police said investigations would continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
