A candidate in the ongoing selection process for the next Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Professor Chris Ekong, has dismissed circulating social media reports claiming that he has already been elected.
Describing the claims as “a desperate fabrication by mischief-makers and opponents of progress,” Professor Ekong stressed that no election or official selection has taken place.
In a statement issued on Wednesday evening in Uyo, the don expressed surprise at the false reports and emphasized that his interest in the position is guided strictly by due process, respect for the rules, and adherence to the University’s procedures.
He called on the University community, stakeholders, and the general public to ignore the misinformation, reaffirming his confidence in the integrity of the selection process.
Professor Ekong assured that the appointment of the next Vice Chancellor will be conducted transparently and officially by the University authorities, not through social media speculation.
