The Nigeria Police Force has presented insurance benefit cheques totalling N9.797 million to the families and beneficiaries of police officers who died in the line of duty in Ekiti State.
The cheques were presented by the state Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, during a ceremony in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by the Ekiti State Police Command on Wednesday, Falade said the payment reflected the Force’s commitment to supporting personnel and their families, particularly in cases involving the death of serving officers.
The commissioner said the financial assistance could not replace the deceased officers but would provide some relief to their families following their loss.
Falade assured the beneficiaries that the police would continue to recognise the sacrifices made by officers who died while performing their duties.
He urged the recipients to manage the funds responsibly, particularly by using them to support the education and general welfare of the children and other dependants of the deceased officers.
The Ekiti police boss also commended the Inspector-General of Police, the Force Management Team, insurance partners and the Force Insurance Unit for facilitating the payment of the legitimate claims.
He extended his condolences to the families and prayed for strength for them to cope with their loss.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mathew Emmanuel thanked the Inspector-General and the Nigeria Police Force for the financial support.
Emmanuel assured the police authorities that the beneficiaries would use the money judiciously for the welfare of the families left behind by the deceased officers.
