Apple has alleged that a former employee involved in its trade secrets lawsuit against OpenAI accessed confidential power converter circuit designs after joining the artificial intelligence company, according to a court filing in the United States.
The technology giant told a US federal court that Chang Liu, a former senior system electrical engineer at Apple, accessed a proprietary circuit schematic while working at OpenAI and allegedly used Apple’s confidential information to train an artificial intelligence agent in March 2026.
Apple said the new evidence was discovered from a MacBook computer provided by OpenAI to the company on August 21 as part of ongoing legal proceedings.
The company has requested that the federal court accelerate the discovery process in its trade secret case against OpenAI, arguing that the newly identified information requires further investigation.
OpenAI has previously asked the court to dismiss Apple’s lawsuit, stating that its products are independently developed and described them as “entirely new.”
The AI company has not immediately issued a public response to Apple’s latest allegations.
The legal dispute adds to growing concerns within the technology industry over the protection of confidential information, intellectual property and the use of proprietary data in the development of artificial intelligence systems.
The case is being closely watched as major technology companies continue to compete in the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence sector, where access to advanced designs, software and research materials remains a key strategic advantage.
