Troops of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, have rescued a kidnap victim and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation in Kogi State.

The troops, operating from Patrol Base Obajana, encountered the 28-year-old victim after he escaped from his abductors.

During preliminary debriefing, the victim disclosed that he was abducted from the Abaji area of the Federal Capital Territory about five weeks ago and had been held captive at a location within the area.

Acting on information provided by the victim, the troops advanced to the identified location, forcing the kidnappers to abandon their position and flee into the surrounding terrain.

During a search of the area, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing criminals.

The rescued victim was evacuated to a military medical facility, where he is receiving appropriate medical attention.

The Nigerian Army says troops are exploiting the success of the operation to track the fleeing criminals and dismantle their network.

It reaffirmed its commitment to sustained intelligence-driven operations, in collaboration with other security agencies, to combat kidnapping, protect lives and property, and restore peace and security in affected communities.
