The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education has constituted a seven-member Electoral Committee to conduct elections for the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS) Worldwide.
The development followed the expiration of the tenure of the association’s executives and the failure of the Interim National Government and Parliament to conduct elections for new executive officers.
The composition of the committee was contained in an updated statement issued by the Ministry of Education on Thursday, August 20, 2026, and signed by the Director, State Education Quality Assurance Service, Mr Abasiama O. Inyang.
According to the statement, the committee was constituted in accordance with the NAAKISS Worldwide Constitution 1996, as amended in 2022.

The seven-member committee is chaired by Uko-Obong Efiok Friday of the University of Uyo Chapter, while Abasifreke Sunday Ekanem of Abia State University Chapter, Miriam Imoh Solomon of the University of Maiduguri Chapter, Esuene John Akan of the University of Port Harcourt Chapter, Kingsley Friday James of Akwa Ibom State University Chapter and Abigail Bassey Nyah of Anchor University Lagos Chapter will serve as members.
Godswill I. Ikpembe of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Chapter was appointed Secretary of the committee.
The ministry also announced the immediate dissolution of all existing executive, parliamentary and judicial office holders of NAAKISS Worldwide, whether elected, interim or appointed.
It directed the affected officials to hand over all NAAKISS Worldwide properties, documents and other materials in their possession to the Desk Officer, Student Affairs, Mrs Kokomma Bassey Akpan, at the Ministry of Education, Block 10, Room 414, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Akwa Ibom State.

The ministry congratulated the newly appointed ELECO members and charged them to carry out their responsibilities within the stipulated timeframe and with integrity.
The constitution of the electoral committee is expected to pave the way for the conduct of fresh elections and the emergence of new leadership for NAAKISS Worldwide.
