The Edo State Police Command has disclosed the remand of a 52-year-old home lesson teacher and a 42-year-old father over separate allegations of sexual abuse involving minors in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed this while briefing journalists during the parade of suspects arrested for various offences in Benin City.

According to Daaor, the home lesson teacher, identified as Daniel Erumudonmoh Okhuilegbe, was accused of sexually assaulting his 13-year-old pupil.

The alleged offence reportedly occurred on August 5, 2026.

The commissioner said the suspect had been engaged by the victim’s family as a home tutor but allegedly abused the trust placed in him.

Following the conclusion of investigations, Okhuilegbe was charged before the Benin High Court on August 14 and subsequently remanded at the Oko Correctional Centre, Benin City.

Daaor also disclosed that a 42-year-old man had been remanded at the Benin Correctional Centre for allegedly sexually assaulting his 15-year-old daughter.

He said the alleged incident occurred on August 6, 2026, in Iyahmo, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The commissioner said the case was investigated after it was transferred to the state police headquarters, following which the suspect was arraigned on August 14 and remanded pending further proceedings.

The police commissioner further announced the arrest of a 26-year-old man, identified as Otaru Jonathan, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in Afokpella, Etsako East Local Government Area.

Daaor said the alleged offence took place on August 12, 2026.

He explained that preliminary investigation indicated that Jonathan allegedly conveyed the girl on a motorcycle to an uncompleted building in the community, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her before giving her N2,000.

The commissioner said the victim was taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment, while the suspect was arrested and remained in police custody.

“Preliminary investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be arraigned in court,” Daaor said.

The police command did not disclose the identities of the minors involved.
