The Nigeria Police Force has announced a restriction of movement across Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The restriction will take effect from midnight on Friday, August 14, 2026, and remain in force until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, announced this in a statement issued on Friday.
The police urged residents to comply with the directive and cooperate with security personnel deployed across the state to maintain peace and security during the election.
“Only persons and categories of movement specifically exempted by the appropriate authorities will be permitted during the period,” the statement said.
The Force also reiterated its earlier directive barring the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun, and other non-state security groups from participating in election-related security operations.
According to the police, only security agencies recognised and established under the Constitution and laws of Nigeria are authorised to perform security and law-enforcement duties alongside the police during the election.
The Force warned that no vigilante organisation, non-state security group or other unauthorised body would be allowed to assume the functions of recognised security agencies.
The police directed such groups to stay away from polling units and all election-related security operations.
They were also warned against engaging in activities capable of intimidating voters, disrupting the electoral process or undermining public peace.
The development comes as security agencies intensify preparations for Saturday’s election, with authorities warning political actors, supporters and other stakeholders against actions capable of threatening the peaceful conduct of the poll.
The police urged all residents to comply with the movement restriction and other security directives to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.
