Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has accused US President Donald Trump of using repeated military threats and diplomatic overtures as a pressure tactic against Tehran.
Ghalibaf accused Trump on Thursday after the US president again claimed that negotiations with Iran were progressing and that the conflict could end soon.
He criticised what he described as a cycle of threats followed by offers of negotiations, saying Washington should instead acknowledge the facts and honour its commitments.
Trump recently cancelled a planned large-scale attack on Iran, claiming that diplomatic progress had been made and that an agreement could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The strategic waterway, a major route for global energy supplies, has remained effectively closed since the conflict escalated, contributing to a sharp rise in oil prices.
Iran and Oman are currently engaged in talks aimed at reopening the strait, with Tehran saying an agreement is close.
Trump, speaking at the White House on Thursday, said he believed the conflict would end soon and that Iran could not sustain the war much longer.
Iranian officials, however, have maintained that the country is prepared for a prolonged conflict.
